Whereas the Council and residents of Oakville support plans to build a new hospital in our community to renew and improve local access to high quality healthcare; Whereas the Council and residents of Oakville believe that the Province of Ontario should fund local hospitals and are very worried about the impact that the $200 million contribution to the Local Share Plan requested by Halton Healthcare Services will have on property taxes; Whereas the Council and residents are concerned that Halton Healthcare Services has asked the Town of Oakville to commit to a significant local share contribution without having access to final costs, interest rates or financing criteria; and Whereas Halton Healthcare Services has told Council the deadline for making the Local Share Plan commitment is March 1, 2010, and they cannot change it; Therefore, be it resolved that: Council thank the Province of Ontario for extending the deadline for the local share commitment to ensure the new Oakville Hospital project is not jeopardized; and Halton Healthcare Services provide all required financial information prior to Council making its decision on the amount of the local share commitment; and Council requests the Province of Ontario and Halton Healthcare Services to resolve outstanding issues of disclosure and certainty of terms.
